"Abstract: An experimental wild trout regulation allowing the use of natural bait (WBA) was put into effect on 14 North Carolina streams on 1 July 1994 following a controversial regulation change that eliminated the use of natural bait on many streams containing wild trout populations. The objectives of this study were to document changes in fish population characteristics, fishing effort, and harvest before and during the experimental regulation. Three-pass depletion sampling on representative reaches was conducted on 13 of the study streams; roving creel surveys were conducted on 3 streams where natural bait had not been allowed for at least 10 years..."--Page 2.
